We’re delighted to announce that in July 2022, Verto Education joined the growing movement of more than 4,000 Certified B Corporations.

Verto’s certification places us among the ranks of B Corp leaders from 150 industries, across 77 countries, including companies like Patagonia, Coursera, Warby Parker, and Ben & Jerry’s.

First off, what is a B Corp?

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

How has Verto operated prior to the B Corp certification?

Since its founding, Verto Education has been a Benefit Corporation with the steadfast conviction that for-profit businesses should be a force for accountability and promoting positive global impact. This certification recognizes our ongoing commitment to these principles.

Why is this a big deal?

A B Corp certification verifies that consumers and other businesses can trust that companies with the status meet top standards in their efforts to do good and do it well. To become a B Corp, you can’t just claim to be sustainable or socially conscious — you must prove it.

The B-Corp Vetting Process

To become a Certified B Corporation, Verto Education submitted a 180+ question assessment focused on five core areas of a company: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. After completing the assessment, Verto then completed a multi-step verification process to review all the answers and accompanying documentation.

In addition, B Lab performed a background check on Verto, including a review of public records, news sources, and search engines for company names, brands, executives/founders, and other relevant topics. In addition, we’ll be maintaining our certification through regular updates to our impact assessment with B Labs and verifying our B Corp score every three years.

Looking to the Future

As part of the B Corp network, Verto Education is member to a growing movement of companies that think differently. We believe all businesses should be a force for good. By connecting the power of business to a social mission, Verto Education provides a top-quality, transformative first year abroad experience as a more accessible and affordable path to a 4-year college degree.

Our hope is that over time, more companies will join Verto Education in becoming certified B Corporations to help address the most pressing equity and justice issues of our time.

“Verto’s mission is to prepare global leaders and transform access to higher education through a coming-of-age first-year of college abroad,” said Verto CEO Mitch Gordon. “Our drive to build a more compassionate world is powered by our business model. We’re honored to join the B Corp community and other like-minded business leaders who put their mission first.”
