Details About Verto London Experience

Vertoans will live in shared accommodations with other Verto participants. Starting in Fall 2024, participants will live in the primary housing option, shared student residences, with a possible option to live in shared flats*. Availability of flats is based on location enrollment. Participants should speak with their admissions counselors and onboarding advisors to determine which option is a better fit for them.

*Please note that participants under the age of 18 are not eligible to live in shared flats.

In the shared student residences, participants will live in double occupancy studios with other Vertoans, and can expect approximately a 30-40 minute commute by public transit to the study center. This is a typical commute for Londoners.

Should location enrollment dictate, an additional housing option will be made available in shared flats located in Central London. Shared flats, typically two-bedrooms, can accommodate four Vertoans. Participants must be 18 years or older to live in a flat.  Participants can expect approximately a 30-40 minute commute by public transit to the study center. This is a typical commute for Londoners.

Student Residences:

Breakfast and dinner, Monday – Friday, are included as part of your semester in London at your residence. Participants are responsible for daily lunch and meals on the weekend.

Shared Flats:

A partial meal stipend will be provided on a weekly basis. The stipend is meant to offset the cost of meals in London. Participants will be able to use their stipend to buy groceries or other meals.

Participants may also cook in their studios & flats or enjoy the diverse culinary scene in London. Plenty of affordable options exist throughout the city, as well as delivery services. Additionally, the student residences have small cafés where participants can purchase light fare such as sandwiches, toasties, coffees, juices, sodas, fruit, yogurt, and other snacky items.

During orientation, staff will ensure that participants know how to operate all cooking equipment in their accommodations and will offer opportunities to teach Vertoans how to cook simple, nutritious meals.

Participants are responsible for airfare to/from London and any internal airfare.

An Oyster card is included in the abroad experience fee, which gives participants access to city buses and Zones 1 & 2 of the London Underground (affectionately known as “The Tube”). Staff will help Vertoans obtain their Oyster Card and learn how to navigate the Tube system during orientation.

As participants will be living in the heart of London, getting around by foot and on public transit will become a part of their everyday experience—as it is with all Londoners!

Why the Verto London study abroad experience?

The London abroad location is a great fit for young adults who are excited by…

City Life

London is a truly global city. You’ll have the opportunity to discover the treasures and hidden gems of this dynamic city. More than 650,000 English and International University students live and study in London, so you will have the chance to befriend people from all over the world if you choose to seek that out.

As you will be living in the heart of London, getting around by foot and on public transit will become a part of your everyday experience – as it is with all Londoners!

Student Housing

You’ll live in shared accommodations, whether it’s a student residence or shared flats with other Vertoans. Regardless of your accommodation type, you’ll always room with another Vertoan. All accommodations are located within zones 1 & 2 of the London tube, which translates into a 30-40 minutes ride (via bus or tube) to the Verto Study Center. Verto will provide you with an Oyster Card to make use of public transportation for your daily commute.

  • Student Residences: The student residences are home to many other university students including British and international university students and language students, all of whom may be long-term or short-term residents. You can expect to share a studio accommodation with an ensuite bathroom, kitchenette, and bunk beds with other Vertoans. Breakfast and dinner, Monday-Friday, are included at the student residence. You’ll also get to flex (or acquire) your culinary skills as you’ll be responsible for daily lunches, weekend meals, and snacks. Don’t worry – basic kitchen tools are provided! Or take advantage of the café onsite and local supermarkets & eateries

  • Shared Flats: Shared flats are located in various neighbourhoods within Central London. Participants may find themselves sharing a building with other Londoners, be they professionals or students. You can expect to share a flat with other Vertoans. Each flat contains a bathroom, fully equipped kitchen with basic kitchen-ware, and shared living space. Participants living in shared flats will receive a partial weekly meal stipend to offset their food costs while in London. Participants must be 18 years of age or older to live in a flat.

Free Time & More Independence

You should expect a fairly typical college schedule. There will be out of class experiential learning activities for courses throughout the week, some of which may occur during class time plus weekend excursions. Your abroad staff in London will also plan plenty of excursions to help you engage with British culture and get to know London. You will still have plenty of free time to explore the city independently.

Since you’ll be living independently and managing your own schedule outside of class, activities, and excursions, London is a great fit for young adults who are looking to develop life skills such as budgeting, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and independent living.

Art, Business, History & Culture

London is full of many free or low cost events and activities such as football games (soccer!), street food tours, museums, art exhibits, and more that you will discover both as part of your studies and in your free time.
