What We Look For

Verto participants expect more from their education and from themselves. They want knowledge you can’t find on the internet, experiences that expand their horizons, tangible skills for life, and relationships that last a lifetime. Here are some of the characteristics we look for in prospective Vertoans.

You seek to understand rather than judge. You begin relationships by asking questions, and you seek out new points of view. You are eager to learn about yourself, explore new passions, and clarify the path you want to take in life.

If you want a standard college experience, Verto is not for you, and that’s okay. If you’re ready to get out of your comfort zone and have some amazing new experiences, then we’ve got a whole world to explore together.

Verto experiences are challenging. Inside the classroom, our Academic Providers delivers a rigorous curriculum. Outside the classroom, you’ll be in an unfamiliar situation. We’ve got your back every step of the way, but you have to put in the work to get the most out of this opportunity.

We want young adults who look out for others, care about their communities, and treat everyone with respect. We’re all in this world together, and a little kindness can make all the difference.

Our number one priority is keeping participants safe while overseas. We cannot do this without your cooperation. Reckless behavior is simply too dangerous in foreign countries. Our experiences are for responsible global citizens.

Application Process

    • Our application is very similar to the Common Application used by many US colleges and universities.
    • Your single Verto application will give you access to any Verto location.
    • Participants must have a GPA of 2.5 or above to qualify for our semesters.
    • Participants must have a valid passport in order to attend in Verto’s international locations. All passports should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the end of the experience (12 months for the Spain location). If this is not the case, prospective participants should renew their passport as soon as possible.
  2. Meet with an Admissions Counselor and Submit Your Documents

    • We require a quick phone call with a counselor and a virtual meeting with a counselor along with your parent or guardian. These calls help us get to know you and learn more about your goals for college and beyond. These are not interviews and you can schedule a call before you even apply.
    • Submit your high school transcript and a 500-word writing sample.

    • Verto application decisions are made on a rolling basis. You will receive a decision from Verto within 1-2 weeks. You’ve got a life to plan, we won’t keep you waiting.

    • We have a limited number of spots each abroad location, and they will fill up. Your spot is not guaranteed until you make a deposit. You will be sent your unique deposit link via email after gaining acceptance to Verto.

    • You can apply to many of our partner schools using your Verto application. Our college counselors will work with you one-on-one to determine what types of schools would be the best fit. College counselors will help you prepare your partner college applications, including any required supplemental materials.
    • You are not required to select a partner school to attend after Verto. If you want to attend a non-partner school, we will help you navigate the transfer process, via our Academic Partners, and be there every step of the way.
    • If you are unsure about your path, you are invited to work with our college counselors at any point before, during, or after your Verto first year abroad experience.

    • Once you receive a partner college decision letter, your college counselor is available to help you navigate your next steps in enrolling at a partner college.
    • Participants who are accepted to Verto Education have an increased chance of gaining acceptance to their dream schools.
