Field Program Leader

We are hiring a Program Leader for each of our semester locations abroad. The Program Leaders in each location will work closely with Verto’s in-country Program Manager to deliver the highest-quality experience for Verto students. Each Program Leader is responsible for safeguarding students’ health and safety and managing program logistics such as accommodations, transport, meals, and excursion logistics. Program Leaders represent Verto and mentor our students as they lead them in outdoor adventure activities, community service projects, travel, experiential learning activities, and down time.

We are currently hiring for the following destinations:

  • South Pacific (New Zealand, Fiji, Australia)
  • San Jose, Costa Rica

Responsibilities:

You work with a team of Program Leaders and Field Instructors in-country who are focused on student safety and responsibility. You facilitate and ensure life-changing experiences for the students on our semester programs as you do the following:​

  • Engage with students and deliver the Verto program experience.
  • Build and maintain positive community partnerships.
  • Implement our safety guidelines and activity standards.
  • Proactively work to safeguard and monitor the health and well-being of students and staff.
  • Respond appropriately to medical incidents and situations as they arise.
  • Build personal trust with students and maintain open lines of communication with them throughout their semester abroad programs.
  • Facilitate positive group dynamics, and foster inclusivity and respect.
  • Ensure program logistics are executed smoothly and consistent with Verto program standards.
  • Help create updates for parents by collecting, creating, and managing written content and photos for our blog, social media sites, and email updates.
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned.

Location

Ability to work in one or more of our country destinations or regions for at least 13 weeks at a time during August -December.

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: BA/BS from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience.
  • ​​1-3 years of experience leading and working with high school or university students as a teacher, coach, camp counselor, community service coordinator, non-profit professional, adventure guide, or similar capacity.
  • Experience delivering a curriculum and facilitating experiential education.
  • Previous experience as an outdoor education summer program leader preferred.

Requirements:

  • Must be 24 years of age or older by February 1, 2021.
  • Must be CPR and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certified from a licensed provider. Classroom or in-person training only. Online certifications are not acceptable. Certifications must be submitted 3 weeks prior to employment, and must be valid through May 2020 (for Spring 2020 Semesters).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Professional working proficiency in English.
  • Fluency in Spanish required for Latin America programs.
  • ​Professional working knowledge in the following areas and/or roles:
  • Outdoor Education, Camp Counseling

Work and Environmental Conditions:

  • This position is based in a remote setting in one or more of our destination countries.
  • This person is often driving and traveling with students.
  • The work pace is continually fast-paced and work is required for more than 4 hours at time.
  • Low supervision from managers with infrequent prompts.
  • Travel is required up to 75% of the time.
  • This position requires such physical abilities as lifting up to 20-100 lbs. sometimes, standing, kneeling, climbing, crouching, pulling, pushing, sitting, twisting, and walking in an outdoor setting. Other physical attributes include hearing students on the phone, and speaking to them constantly in person.
  • The environment in which the job is performed outside may include exposure to extreme temperature, noise, heights, or other hazards.

Program Manager

We are hiring a Program Manager for each of our semester locations abroad. They will respond to incidents and manage issues as they occur, talking with Verto HQ and parents as necessary.

Responsibilities:

The Course Director serves as the Faculty of Record at Portland State University and will be in charge of designing the curriculum, training the teaching staff, and supervising the delivery and grading of the course remotely. This is a part-time position where weekly hours and responsibilities vary according to the academic cycle. Please see below for more details regarding the anticipated timeline and breakdown of responsibilities. While the Course Director position is anticipated as a part-time position for the 2020-21 academic year, there is significant scope for the position to turn into full-time employment for the 2021-22 academic year as Verto grows in scale. Significant opportunity exists to have an impact on the trajectory of programming and curriculum at Verto for the right candidate.

Verto Education Alumni Internship

We are looking for a Verto alum to serve as our part-time Community Intern. This position will assist the Marketing and Community Management teams in Spring 2020 (April, May, and June, with the possibility of extending through summer). Interns will gain valuable professional experience and skills in the international/experiential education industry. The spring intern will help Verto staff with ongoing projects intended to improve the overall student experience and effectiveness of outreach to pre-departure students.

The intern will be provided a monthly stipend of $1000 for a 15 hour/week commitment. We provide a flexible and enjoyable work environment that values inclusion, equity, diversity, and global citizenship. This position is Remote – with the possibility of a short visit to our Portland, OR headquarters later in the summer if conditions allow.

This position reports to: Madeline Willett, Community Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff in collecting photos, videos and stories from other Verto alumni
  • Work with Community Manager to produce written and video content that provides helpful and engaging pre-departure information for students preparing to go abroad 
  • Participate in webinars for prospective and pre-departure students 
  • Brainstorm ways to improve pre-departure communication and transitions for students who have completed a Verto semester
  • Act as a mentor for current students transitioning to life back in the US
  • Assist Marketing Director and Community Manager with other projects as needed

Desired Outcomes (as the Alumni Intern, you’ll be able to gain the following):

  • Gain valuable writing, storytelling, and content production skills 
  • Help students be more prepared to go abroad and be able to get more out of their Verto experience
