Verto Policies

In partnership with our Academic Provider, academic integrity is a core value that ensures respect in teaching and learning for all Verto participants, staff, and community partners. Verto expects that participants conduct themselves in a manner that respects the intellectual work of others.  This policy provides clear expectations and articulates consequences for violations which may include plagiarism, fabrication, cheating, collaboration or collusion, or facilitating academic dishonesty, among other violations.

For participants that wish to continue with Verto beyond their first semester, Verto Education and our Academic Provider require an earned GPA of 2.0 or greater from their education prior to attending Verto. This policy also details the grading system and scale used by Verto Education and our Academic Provider.

Verto subscribes to core pedagogical commitments that inform course development and implementation across all our courses and programs. The learning environment is specifically designed so that all participants leave their Verto experience with the academic, social, and emotional skills required to not only thrive in college but to also make a positive and responsible impact in our wider diverse and global society.

Participants attain maximum academic benefit through regular class attendance, and attendance is of particular importance in education abroad. Verto has the responsibility to ensure compliance with regulations set forth by our Academic Provider, the University of New Haven, NEASC accreditation, and immigration controls, which includes attendance tracking to ensure participants meet requirements relevant to immigration status of the host country.

Participants must follow the established policies on course changes before and after the registration period.

The Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) provides participants with certain rights regarding their educational records. In addition, parents/guardians are not able to obtain information regarding their participant’s academic performance, as led by our Academic Provider, or standing without prior authorization of the participant. Participants are asked to sign our Academic Provider’s FERPA waiver as part of their onboarding paperwork, in order for staff to be able to engage parents/guardians in discussions around participants’ financial needs, performance, and success during the experience.

Participants are insured through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). CISI offers world-class coverage while Vertoans are abroad, including through the MyCISI application.

The Involuntary Protective Withdrawal Policy (IPW) exists for rare circumstances in which a participants behavior create a real danger of substantial harm to self or the Verto Community.

Families are required to complete this form if your Verto participant is under the age of 18 and wants to travel independently while abroad with Verto.

Expectations regarding living in community in each of Verto’s housing accommodations.

Participants are required to be in possession of a working cell phone with the ability to make and receive voice calls, SMS, and internet data capability. Participants must be able to provide Verto with an up-to-date phone number upon arrival, and must update staff should their phone number change during the study abroad experience.

These are the terms and conditions for participating in a Verto study abroad experience. By signing this agreement, you’ll grant Verto medical authorization in the event of emergency, the ability to provide insurance and housing, and more.

Unless specifically authorized by Verto Education, no participant may create an “official” Verto Education presence on any form of website or social media now in existence, or created in the future, or represent themselves as a spokesperson or authorized representative of Verto Education. This includes the use of the Verto Education name or logos in any manner that suggests a connection or oversight. In addition, participants may not post photos or videos of other Verto participants or staff without their consent. A participant may face disciplinary consequences should they post photos or videos of another Verto participant in a compromising situation.
