Making friends for life is always the highlight of every Verto semester.

Curious what a day in the life of a Verto semester student is like?! Who better to tell you all about it than current Verto students themselves! This week’s blog is written by student Eleanor Mathews in London.

GETTING LOST

What a whirlwind it has been! When I’m not in classes, I’ve been out exploring the city. There have been moments when my friends and I have accidentally got on the wrong bus, taken the incorrect tube line, or wandered off in the opposite direction of Ability Towers, but as one of my professors explained to us, the best way to explore London is to get lost in it. So far, he’s right. In a city as big as this one, it’s important to have friends to get lost with. Thank goodness for all the lovely people I can explore all of these places with!

I’ve seen the London Eye, Chinatown, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Westminster, and some very pretty parks. The cool thing is that you can be almost anywhere in the city and there’s usually something pretty to take a picture of.

The London Eye (pictured here!) is one of the city’s most famous landmarks. You get sweeping views of all of London from the top!

And of course, my peers make classes more entertaining as well. After all of the online classes we’d had over quarantine, it’s nice to be back in a traditional classroom setting with our professor at the front of the class and all of us in the same room. Discussions flow much more easily now, and even today we got to go on a walking tour of Bloomsbury for our Cultural Geography class.

Verto London students have been getting out and about and enjoying all the incredible city has to offer.

In general, it’s been really fun getting to know everyone and seeing them outside of Ability Towers. The whole cohort went to explore Chinatown together, which was quite a good night of laughing and strolling. It was also Bella’s birthday last weekend, so Troi and I bought balloons and a cake and we all celebrated!

Enjoying your birthday during your semester in London?! No birthday will ever top that!

About a week ago we were asked if we missed home terribly. In some ways, I am homesick, but my friend Taylor put it best: the excitement to be here outweighs all of those feelings. I’m so grateful to be in such a busy city with equally energetic people. There’s so much more to look forward to in the next two months and I’m excited to experience it all! As always, thanks for following along!
