Today, I had the pleasure of interviewing Verto Alum Brooke Nagle (Online, Fall 2020 and Hawaii, Spring 2021). Check out her story below!

What are you up to now? What’s life like post-Verto?
After my semester in Hawaii, my plan was to attend a university in Washington, DC. However, after studying with Verto, my perspective totally shifted, and I wanted to continue traveling. I found the Anglo-American University in Prague and enrolled to study international relations and human rights there.
Prague was super fun, and I had the opportunity to travel a lot. I visited 14 countries, but Prague is still my favorite city after going everywhere around Europe!
I graduated from my undergraduate program at Anglo-American University in June and am now back in Connecticut. My ultimate goal is to get back abroad, although for now, I’m an intern for a website where I write political articles and for a congressional campaign.
And then, as of today, I just accepted a position as a middle school History teacher at a school here in Connecticut! I start next week.
How did Verto help you get to where you are today?
Every activity we did with Verto was really community-oriented. I remember one of the best experiential learning excursions was planting coffee trees as part of our class. Because of the community-oriented environment, I was able to meet one of my best friends, who is still one of my closest friends to this day, even four years later. We even lived together for a little bit a few years ago.
What advice would you give to our newest Verto alumni?
I would say to meaningfully reflect on your experience, and really try to learn everything that you can from it. Also, it can be a scary transition going from being abroad to maybe a more traditional college experience, but keeping in touch with people in your program might help with this transition. I know that really helped, especially when I got home.
I remember calling Carly, my best friend from the semester, almost every day because it was nice to have someone to talk to who went through the same experience as I did. That’s something special about the Verto Community – the people that are a part of it.
