The college application process can be stressful and expensive. But what if it didn’t have to be?
Imagine starting college with one application, a semester (or three) abroad exploring the world, and guaranteed admission* to 40+ colleges and universities — all while earning transferable college credits and staying on track to graduate.
That’s exactly what Verto Education’s Direct Transfer Admissions Pathway makes possible. As part of #TransferStudentWeek, we’re celebrating the students who are taking control of their college journey through our first year abroad programs and showing you how you can, too.
What Is the Verto Direct Transfer Admissions Pathway?
Verto’s Direct Transfer Admissions Pathway is a unique and flexible way to begin your college experience.
Instead of jumping straight into a traditional four-year university, you start your college journey studying abroad with Verto for one, two, or three semesters. While abroad, you’ll take fully accredited U.S. college courses through the University of New Haven, Verto’s academic provider. These credits are partner-reviewed and designed to transfer seamlessly, so you stay on track with your studies while gaining global experience. You’ll grow academically and personally, with dedicated academic and student life support every step of the way. You could find yourself cheering at a soccer match in Buenos Aires, reading Shakespeare in a London park, or wandering through historic streets in Prague — maybe even doing all three.
But here’s where it gets really exciting:
Verto’s study abroad programs don’t just give you a life-changing travel experience; they also unlock your path to a secure academic future. When you meet the eligibility requirements during your Verto experience, you could transfer with guaranteed admission to Verto’s 40+ partner colleges and universities, including top schools like Pace University, University of San Diego, and Baylor University.
During your time studying abroad, you’ll benefit from comprehensive academic support and guidance to keep you on track to meet your transfer goals. You’ll work closely with Verto’s on-site staff to identify your best-fit schools and get support with every step of the transfer admissions process, from applications to choosing your final destination.
Why This Matters During #TransferStudentWeek
National Transfer Student Week exists to celebrate the journeys, challenges, and successes of students who take a nontraditional path to college. According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, 36% of undergraduate students transfer at least once in their college careers.
Transferring to a new school can feel like a big leap, but know that you’re not doing it alone. Many Verto students find themselves transferring alongside at least one, and sometimes 15+ peers, to the same campus. That built-in community makes a big difference.
Plus, most colleges offer transfer-specific orientations, mentorship programs, and student organizations to help you find “your people” fast. And because you’ve already had a semester (or three) of college-level experience studying abroad, you’re arriving with more confidence and independence than many traditional freshmen. You’ve already survived group projects, culture shock, and possibly asking for the Wi-Fi password in three different languages — you’ve got this!
College Transfer Tips: What to Know Before You Transfer
Whether you’re planning ahead or just starting to figure out how to transfer colleges, these tips can help make your path smoother and more successful.
- Know What Transfers
Before you take any courses, it’s smart to understand how your credits will transfer to your future school. At Verto, you’ll earn fully accredited U.S. college credits through our academic provider, the University of New Haven. These credits are designed to transfer seamlessly, and we make it easier by providing detailed course syllabi and credit info on our website.
Every college has its own credit transfer policies. To understand how credits may apply, students can view Verto partner course equivalencies directly on our Direct Transfer Admissions pathway partner pages.
- Keep Your Grades Up
Most institutions require a minimum GPA, and with our Direct Transfer Partners, you can review their GPA requirements on our partner pages to help you set your academic goals. With Verto’s support systems in place, from tutoring to small class sizes, you’ll be set up for academic success from day one.
- Think About Fit
Transferring is all about finding the right school for you. That’s why Verto students work with on-site staff to identify which partner schools are the right fit and receive support throughout every step of the application process.
- Ask Questions
Get familiar with application timelines, housing for transfer students, orientation programs, and credit evaluation. At Verto, we aim to prepare you early with information sessions, one-on-one advising, and resources to make the transfer process as simple as possible.
- Post Transfer Success
Students who begin their college journey abroad often arrive on their new campuses more prepared, confident, and connected. While exploring and studying abroad in Florence, London, or Buenos Aires, you’re also building real-world skills: independence, adaptability, and global communication. These experiences help you make connections, build confidence, and relate to a broader range of people right away.
You’ll have stories to share, a new perspective to bring into the classroom, and the ability to navigate change, all of which help you thrive socially, academically, and eventually in job or internship interviews.
When you’ve lived abroad, solved real-world problems, and learned across cultures, that’s something future schools and employers notice.
