Eligibility for the different types of financial aid may be based on financial need, field of study, and/or academics. 80% of students at UI receive some form of financial aid.
To apply for financial aid offered by the Office of Student Financial Aid, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or visit the Iowa Scholarship portal (scholarships.uiowa.edu)

Transfer students at the University of Iowa have access to flexible housing options, including residence halls and university-affiliated apartments designed to support a smooth transition to campus life. Many options are conveniently located near academic buildings, dining, and transportation, helping transfer students quickly feel at home and connected.

The University of Iowa offers a wide array of study abroad opportunities — from short-term faculty-led programs to semester and year-long experiences — enabling students to earn academic credit while gaining global perspectives and real-world experience.
The Study Abroad Office provides advising, helps with program planning, scholarships, and financial aid guidance, and offers resources to ensure a safe, meaningful international experience.
To earn guaranteed admission through Direct Transfer to University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences you will need:
- 2.5+ GPA
- 24+ credits
A 2.50 or higher on at least 24 semester hours of acceptable graded credit earned after high school graduation.
Students with fewer than 24 semester hours will not be eligible for the guarantee, but may apply through the Direct Transfer Application to be considered for admission based on a combination of high school and college academic records, as well as ACT or SAT scores.
Admission to select majors, and other academic colleges may have additional prerequisite/GPA requirements.
Only the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is included in the Direct Transfer guarantee. Please note that the Direct Transfer pathway guarantees your admission to the College, but not all programs within the College. Some majors within the College of Arts and Sciences have additional requirements for eligibility.
Each college within the University of Iowa has specific transfer requirements. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the main undergraduate college at Iowa, and works closely with the Tippie College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Education, and other UI colleges. While most majors at University of Iowa are open to all applicants, there are some direct admission programs and colleges with additional course and GPA requirements. Yes! University of Iowa welcomes both fall and spring transfers from Verto.
Students who do not meet the guaranteed admission requirements should contact Jennifer Timmons to discuss their options in detail.
You are eligible for the Direct Transfer guarantee to University of Iowa! The 2.5+ GPA requirement is cumulative of all college transcripts. Courses completed at colleges and universities accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, or similar regional associations, are acceptable for transfer to the University of Iowa. Grades from career-technical courses are not figured into your transfer GPA.
You can complete 2 or 3 semesters abroad with Verto and remain eligible for the Direct Transfer pathway to the University of Iowa with a 2.50 or higher on at least 24 semester hours of acceptable graded credit earned after high school graduation.

Once you arrive at your Verto location, you can begin working with Verto staff to prepare your application to the University of Iowa. Applications are typically sent following mid-terms, so your mid-term report can demonstrate your progress towards Direct Transfer eligibility.
The following documents will need to be included in your Verto Direct Transfer Application packet to University of Iowa:

- Unofficial University of New Haven final transcript for any prior Verto semesters

After applying to the University of Iowa, you must set up your HawkID and password to access the MyUI Admissions Profile, which is used to track application status, submit required documents, view your admission decision, and take necessary next steps.
You should receive the email prompting you to set up your HawkID and password within a week of the University of Iowa receiving your Direct Transfer Application from Verto.
