The University at Albany offers a range of scholarships and financial aid options specifically for transfer students to help make a high-quality education more accessible. Transfer applicants are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships based on GPA and number of transferable credits—no separate application required.
In addition, UAlbany provides robust need-based aid, and encourages all students to submit the FAFSA early for priority consideration. Support from the Financial Aid Office ensures transfer students have guidance every step of the way. UAlbany’s FAFSA code is 002835.

Student life at the University at Albany is vibrant and diverse, with over 250 student clubs and organizations spanning academic, cultural, recreational, and service interests. From student government to Greek life, and everything in between, there are countless ways for students to get involved and build community on campus.
Once admitted, transfer students at the University at Albany are encouraged to apply for on-campus housing, which is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Assignments are determined by the date and time the housing application is received, so early submission is recommended to increase the likelihood of securing preferred housing options.
Transfer students at the University at Albany are fully eligible to participate in study abroad programs. Courses completed abroad can count toward graduation requirements, provided that at least 30 of the final 60 credits are completed on campus at UAlbany. With proper planning and advisor approval, transfer students can even study abroad for a full year.
UAlbany offers over 70 study abroad programs in 34 countries, with access to more than 300 programs across the SUNY system. Options include semester, summer, and winter programs, as well as the long-standing UAlbany in Valencia, Spain program.
To earn guaranteed admission to University at Albany through the Direct Transfer Pathway, during your time with Verto you will need:
- 2.75+ GPA
- 12+ credits
Admission to UAlbany’s 4-year Nursing Program is not open to Verto students at this time due to limited spaces. Verto students have a variety of options for studying in similar careers that could prepare you for nursing education in your future.
Additionally, the following majors require GPAs higher than 2.75 to be admitted:
- Accounting: 3.0 GPA
- Adolescent Education: 3.0 GPA
- Business Administration: 3.0 GPA
- Childhood and Special Education: 3.0 GPA
- Criminal Justice: 3.2 GPA
- Digital Forensics: 3.0 GPA
- Early Childhood / Childhood Education: 3.0 GPA
- Financial Market Regulation: 3.2 GPA
- Human Development: 3.0 GPA
- Social Welfare: 3.0 GPA
Yes! University at Albany welcomes both fall and spring transfers from Verto.
While you won’t be eligible for the guarantee, we still encourage you to work with your Verto Care Team to prepare and submit a Verto Direct Transfer Application for holistic review
You are still eligible for the Direct Transfer guarantee to University at Albany! The 2.75+ GPA requirement is cumulative of all college transcripts.
Yes, you can complete 1, 2, or 3 semesters abroad with Verto and remain eligible for the Direct Transfer pathway to UAlbany.
Yes, homeschooled and GED students are eligible for the DT Guarantee. You will need to submit your GED certificate with your Direct Transfer Application packet.
While you won’t be eligible for the guarantee, we still encourage you to work with your Verto Care Team to prepare and submit a Verto Direct Transfer Application for holistic review.

Once you arrive at your Verto location, you can begin working with Verto staff to prepare your application to University at Albany. Applications are typically sent following mid-terms, so your mid-term report can demonstrate your progress towards Direct Transfer eligibility.
The following documents will need to be included in your Verto Direct Transfer Application packet to University at Albany:

- Mid-term Report for your current Verto semester
- Unofficial University of New Haven final transcript for any prior Verto semesters
- Student to submit to Verto for inclusion:
- Unofficial college transcripts from any pre-Verto college coursework
Students may defer their start term as long as the student maintains admissions requirements.
Within 1 week of receiving the Direct Transfer packet from Verto, you will hear from UAlbany admissions regarding the welcome portal and next steps.
Verto students are eligible for all transfer merit based scholarships and will be notified within two weeks of acceptance.
