TRANSFER STUDENT SUPPORT

Loyola Marymount University’s range of support services are designed to help transfer students transition successfully into the campus community. 

The Transfer Admission team is dedicated to assisting transfer students navigate application requirements and enrollment next steps, including transfer-specific orientation and advising and registration. Additionally, we offer opportunities to connect with peers and the campus community through online and in-person events. 

Once on campus, new transfer students are able to access all campus resources, including those dedicated to serving transfer students such as the ATLAS Program and Transfer Programs.

FINANCES

Loyola Marymount University offers several academic scholarship programs to recognize and reward the academic accomplishments of our most distinguished entering transfer students. No special application is required for these scholarships. All applicants for admission are automatically considered. Selection is based on academic accomplishment, including GPA. 

Additionally, all admitted students who submit a FAFSA are considered for need-based scholarships and grants. 

LMU’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) code is 001234 and CSS Profile code is 001011.

STUDENT LIFE

At LMU, students can get involved in 200+ registered student organizations, including 10 dedicated to service. With access to over 100 study abroad programs and on-campus housing facilities supporting 3,700 students, there are countless ways to engage, explore, and build community. All newly admitted transfer students are welcome to apply for on-campus housing once they have officially committed to attend Loyola Marymount University.You can review the housing application timeline, process and deadlines on the LMU Student Housing website.

At LMU, transfer students are eligible to participate in global experiences after completing just one semester on campus. 

With more than 100 semester‑ and summer‑long programs to choose from, transfers who come in with previous abroad experience can further leverage that background while continuing to earn LMU credit for approved programs.

To earn guaranteed admission to Loyola Marymount University through the Direct Transfer Pathway, during your time with Verto you will need:

  • 3.2+ GPA
  • 24+ credits
  • 2+ Semesters

The following programs are not included in the Direct Transfer Pathway guarantee:

  • Animation
  • Film and Television Production
  • Recording Arts
  • Theatre Arts 
  • Dance
  • Music
  • BFA Art and Design 

While these programs are not guaranteed in the Direct Transfer Pathway, students are welcome to apply for holistic review via the Direct Transfer application. Once LMU receives your application packet, you can expect to receive an email with instructions for accessing your LMU Applicant Status portal within 3 business days. You may then submit your audition or portfolio via your Applicant Status page. 

Auditions and Portfolios

Loyola Marymount University welcomes application for both fall and spring transfers from Verto who have completed two or more semesters abroad.

While you won’t be eligible for the guarantee, we still encourage you to work with Verto on-site staff to prepare and submit a Verto Direct Transfer Application for holistic review.

You are still eligible for the Direct Transfer guarantee to Loyola Marymount University! The 3.2 GPA requirement is cumulative of all college transcripts.

Credits earned prior will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Yes, you can complete 1, 2, or 3 semesters abroad with Verto and remain eligible for the Direct Transfer pathway to Loyola Marymount University.

Yes, international students are eligible for the Direct Transfer Pathway.

In addition to the minimum GPA and unit requirements outlined above, international students must satisfy the English proficiency requirement. 

Proof of English proficiency can be shown in the following ways:

  1. Completing English Composition at a US college or university with a minimum grade of C or better. Note that English composition taken online will not be accepted to fulfill proof of English proficiency.
  1. Taking an English Proficiency Exam: If you are a non-native English speaker and have not taken English Composition at a US college or university with at least a C grade, or took this course online, you must take one of the following tests of English proficiency and arrange for scores to be sent directly to LMU from the test administrators.
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (LMU’s TOEFL Institution code is 4403). The University’s minimum standard for undergraduate admission is 90 on the Internet-based TOEFL.
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The University’s minimum standard for undergraduate admission is 6.5.
    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE). The university’s minimum standard for undergraduate admission is 56.
    • Duolingo English Test. The university’s minimum standard for undergraduate admission is 120.

Once you arrive at your Verto location, you can begin working with Verto staff to prepare your application to Loyola Marymount University. Applications are typically sent following mid-terms, so your mid-term report can demonstrate your progress towards Direct Transfer eligibility.

The following documents will need to be included in your Verto Direct Transfer Application packet to Loyola Marymount University: 

  • Verto to provide from their records:
    • Final High School Transcript
    • Mid-term Report for your current Verto semester
    • Unofficial University of New Haven final transcript for any prior Verto semesters
  • Student to submit to Verto for inclusion:
    • Unofficial college transcripts from any pre-Verto college coursework

Verto can update the matriculation semester on your current application. 

If you have been admitted and would like to defer the acceptance, you must submit the gap request form for consideration.

Once your application packet is received from Verto, you can expect to receive an email with instructions for accessing your LMU Applicant Status portal within 3 business days.
