Franklin University Switzerland’s (FUS) mission is to provide a cross-cultural and multinational learning and living environment that inspires students to engage the world. A Franklin education produces critical thinkers who are culturally literate, ethically aware and intellectually courageous. With a curriculum that integrates liberal arts with professional pathways and classroom learning with Academic Travel to destinations around the world, FUS prepares students to become responsible, compassionate, and collaborative leaders in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
As the only higher education institution dually accredited by Switzerland and the United States in the world, FUS is unique: it incorporates the academic strengths of Swiss and American education on an international campus housed on the hillsides above Lake Lugano, while nurturing a strong sense of community amongst students, faculty, and staff as well as inspiring students to explore a different part of the world each semester.
Franklin University Switzerland (FUS) offers students a unique and dynamic learning environment: we believe in the transformative power of combining academic theory with real-world practice. Students can explore a myriad of major fields of study that are deeply intertwined with an interdisciplinary and experiential approach. FUS welcomes transfer students as a fantastic addition to our already diverse student body. As such, FUS is well-equipped to receive transfer students who have access to all the services available to regular students. They join orientation (in Fall or Spring) and are assigned an academic advisor upon joining FUS. Transfer students can transfer up to 60 credit hours for the Bachelor of Arts degree (to be assessed by the Registrar in consultation with relevant departments).
Transfer students are eligible for the same scholarships and financial aid as incoming first year students, meaning if they meet our criteria, they have access to the same opportunities as other students.
70% of our students receive financial aid. As an institution, FUS offers scholarships based on academic merit and financial need. Additionally, students may receive aid from various external programs based on citizenship, need, and other factors. Together we create a financial aid package and carefully guide you through your financing options to help you afford your education.
At FUS, there are many student activities and organizations available on campus. Each year, student organizations coordinate dozens of programs, projects and other initiatives, and they are a key part of student learning at Franklin. Many of these activities have become Franklin traditions, forming a set of events to look forward to as a Franklin student.
These traditions represent an exciting chance to get to know fellow classmates, faculty and staff, thus helping you maximize your university experience. If you don’t see a club that relates to your interests, it’s easy to start your own!
In addition to all the clubs, the Franklin University Switzerland Student Government Association (SGA), elected by the student body at large, assumes the duty of representing students’ needs and interests in all facets of University life, from academics to student engagement. SGA manages university social events, allocates student funds and discusses the refinement of university policies in line with students’ interests.
Housing is guaranteed for all Franklin students. Over 80% of our students live in one of our seven residence halls. Once deposited, students are able to complete the housing selection process.
