Bennington’s educational model is different from other colleges and universities. You will forge your own path among nearly 40 exciting areas of study, investigating the questions that matter most to you with faculty who are professionals in their fields—writers, scientists, performers, activists, artists, scholars—who will mentor and collaborate with you. To put it all together, each year, you will spend six weeks pursuing an internship, job, performance, or scholarly research individually suited to your interests.

TRANSFER STUDENT SUPPORT

10% of Bennington’s student body are transfer students! Bennington provides dedicated support for transfer students through personalized admissions counseling, tailored orientation programming, and close collaboration with faculty and campus offices. Each transfer student is matched with an academic advisor to help design a personalized plan of study. The college also offers ongoing guidance to help transfers integrate into the community both academically and socially.

 

FINANCES

Every transfer applicant is automatically considered for merit scholarships up to $67,850 per year. Both domestic and international transfer students are also eligible for further need-based financial aid. 90% of Bennington transfer students receive Financial Aid. STUDENT LIFE

Student life at Bennington College is creative, student-led, and ever-evolving, with over 50 clubs spanning arts, culture, activism, and outdoor adventures. From planning campus-wide events like Sunfest to running publications and leading governance, students take charge of shaping their community. Leadership and collaboration are central, giving every student a voice and a role.

A majority of students live on campus in mixed-class year housing, ensuring a smooth transition into the campus community. Students live in house-style residences rather than traditional dorms, fostering close-knit, inclusive environments. Each house has a unique personality, and students often take part in shaping the social and cultural life of their living spaces.

Bennington offers a range of study abroad opportunities that allow students to explore academics and internships around the world. Programs are flexible and often integrated with each student’s self-designed plan of study, meaning even students that transfer in from Verto should have the opportunity to go abroad again. Students have studied in places like Germany, Japan, and Ghana, often combining travel with immersive, hands-on learning.

To earn guaranteed admission to Bennington College through the Direct Transfer Pathway, during your time with Verto you will need:

  • 3.0+ GPA
  • 12+ credits

BFA in Dance is not included in the Direct Transfer Admissions Pathway. Students are encouraged to apply directly to Bennington for holistic review.

Yes! Bennington welcomes both fall and spring transfers from Verto. Students starting in the spring can study the same programs as those who study in the fall.

Yes, you can complete 1, 2, or 3 semesters abroad with Verto and remain eligible for the Direct Transfer pathway to Bennington.

While you won’t be eligible for the guarantee, we still encourage you to work with your Verto Care Team to prepare and submit a Verto Direct Transfer Application for holistic review.

You are still eligible for the Direct Transfer guarantee to Bennington! The 3.0+ GPA requirement is cumulative of all college transcripts. Bennington requires all official transcripts from all institutions attended post high school prior to matriculating to campus.

Yes, you would still be eligible for the Direct Transfer Admissions Pathway! In your Direct Transfer Application packet, you would need to include any transcripts or credentials to show you have completed an equivalent high school curriculum.

International students who do not plan to apply for need-based financial aid are eligible for the Direct Transfer Pathway. You will still be considered for all merit-based scholarships.

International students who plan to apply for need-based financial aid won’t be eligible for the guarantee, but we still encourage you to work with your Verto Care Team to prepare and submit a Verto Direct Transfer Application for holistic review.

Once you arrive at your Verto location, you can begin working with Verto staff to prepare your application to Bennington. Applications are typically sent following mid-terms, so your mid-term report can demonstrate your progress towards Direct Transfer eligibility.

The following documents will need to be included in your Verto Direct Transfer Application packet to Bennington: 

  • Verto to provide from their records:
    • Final High School Transcript
    • Mid-term Report for your current Verto semester
    • Unofficial University of New Haven final transcript for any prior Verto semesters
  • Student to submit to Verto for inclusion:
    • Unofficial college transcripts from any pre-Verto college coursework if applicable
    • Optional Portfolio – We love creative work, and we review every portfolio we receive—but it’s entirely your choice if you want to share your work!

Work with Verto staff onsite to submit a new Direct Transfer Application during your final semester abroad.

You will receive information about setting up an applicant portal typically 3-5 days after we’ve received your Verto application packet. You should expect to receive a decision within a few weeks of Verto sending your application packet.
