Lend Edu estimates the average cost for four-year higher education at an American non-profit college is around $50,000 per annum. At The American University of Rome, the cost per annum (including accommodation) is just over $35,000.
This, combined with the lower cost of living in Italy, represents a significant saving and means that our students can graduate with a much more manageable student loan overhead.
All Verto students are eligible to apply for both merit and financial need scholarships.
In addition to merit and financial need scholarships, US citizens and permanent residents are able to access federal loans through FAFSA, but please note that Pell Grants cannot be utilized at The American University of Rome.
The American University of Rome community welcomes transfer students to our full-time undergraduate programs. Once admitted to the program, students have a one-on-one call with their AUR Admissions Counselor to discuss the transition and next steps.
There is a large range of diverse and fully inclusive clubs and activities at AUR. Some are faculty-led and some are student-led, but all are dynamic and fun and we encourage all new students to get involved in at least one of our extracurricular offerings.

Any student applying to The American University of Rome who does not hold citizenship from a European Union country will be required to apply for a student visa to study with us.
Please note that while individuals without European Union citizenship are eligible to stay up to 90 days in the EU as tourists, AUR’s semesters last longer than 90 days in length, and as such a visa is required.
Absolutely! Students accepted to The American University of Rome receive access to our student portal, which houses information to aid students during the visa application process, including checklists, sample visa applications, videos, and more. Our Admissions Team also hosts webinars and is available for additional support, as needed.
Your selection of Verto locations will have many factors, such as age requirements, visa considerations for your Verto semesters, your interests, and more! Work closely with the Verto Admissions staff to determine the best fit for you.
In terms of how your Verto locations could impact your visa process for AUR, if you are participating in a spring Verto program, keep those program dates in mind. The earlier you return to the U.S. or your home country after the spring semester, the earlier you can begin the application process!
All students will need to return to their home country in order to apply for their student visa, as they will need to complete the application process at their local consulate.
Completing the packet for the visa application can take some time and Consulates typically require a minimum of two-three weeks processing time. For Fall enrollment, we recommend that you aim to have your visa application packet completed and submitted no later than June 15 to ensure receipt of your visa prior to the beginning of AUR’s Fall semester in late August.
For students looking to study with AUR in the spring, while the timeline is tight, it is possible! You will have to return home in order to apply for your visa, so we recommend working in advance to begin the application and get the required documents in order so that it’s ready to submit as soon as you get home in December.
